Hospital Earns an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

St. Joseph Health, Queen of the Valley Medical Center is proud to share the hospital recently received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade in the spring 2019 survey.

“Our caregivers are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients each and every day. We are pleased to be recognized once again for our commitment to patient safety,” said Larry Coomes, Chief Executive at Queen of the Valley.

This is one of several recent recognitions Queen of the Valley has received in the past year, reflecting the exceptional care the hospital provides. Other recent recognitions include being named as:

  • An “A” Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization which evaluates hospitals based on quality, transparency and safety (click here to review a detailed summary from the report). You can compare our score to other hospitals in the area here. Queen of the Valley received an A both in both Fall 2018 and Spring 2019.
  • A Ranking on the Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospital’s list. The list is based on providing exceptional quality outcomes for 32 procedures and conditions. This recognition places Queen of the Valley in the top 5 percent in the nation for overall clinical excellence for the current year.
  • A Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care for delivering safe and effective cardiac care, focusing on percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty with stent), as well as cardiac valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft.
  • A Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, making Queen of the Valley the only Certified Primary Stroke Center in Napa County. This Gold Seal of Approval reflects our commitment to continuously improving performance, reducing risks and fostering better outcomes for stroke patients.
  • A “Top Performer” in reducing Sepsis Mortality by Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH). Queen of the Valley is the only ministry in PSJH’s 50 hospitals utilizing the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)-led Sepsis model and it has seen dramatic results since its roll-out in March 2017. Queen of the Valley was recognized for reducing the mortality rate for a patient with sepsis from 15 percent to 9 percent since the implementation of the program. In terms of national benchmarks, this performance places Queen of the Valley in the top 10 percent in the country. The hospital is now ahead of the curve compared to many hospitals, thanks to the caregivers who are proactively recognizing and managing this deadly infection and saving lives.
