Providence Alaska Medical Center designated an Aetna Institute of Quality for bariatric surgery

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid, or extreme, obesity.

The hospital earned this designation by consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care. Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions.

“This designation highlights our strong commitment to patients who come to us for help reaching and maintaining a healthy weight,” said Sarah Skeel, executive director of surgical and procedural services at PAMC. “Our goal is to provide patients peace of mind and to collaborate on a care plan that benefits their health well into the future. We thank Aetna for their recognition of our high-quality care.”

PAMC offers several types of state-of-the-art weight-loss surgeries and is the only Bariatric Center of Excellence in Alaska accredited by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Care teams provide education, support and guidance to help patients achieve their weight-loss goals. Potential candidates for bariatric surgery can view criteria for the procedure here.
