For the 13th year in a row, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association honored Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital with the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. Providence Holy Family Hospital also received Get with The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital also earned the Get With The Guidelines® Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Referring Bronze Plus Award for their commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing an especially severe and dangerous type of heart attack known a ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

These designations are the highest level of achievement for a program that serves more than three times the amount of people than any other health provider in the region.

“This recognition demonstrates Providence’s continued commitment to providing patients with advanced stroke treatment quickly and safely,” said Dr. Ken Isaacs, Providence Neuroscience Institute regional medical director. “We are proud to be the community’s most trusted health care provider for stroke, from prevention through rehabilitation.”

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association also awarded Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center the Target: StrokeSM Elite Plus Honor Roll Award for consistently reducing times between a stroke patient’s arrival and treatment. The medical center has the fastest arrival-to-treatment times in the region and one of the quickest times in the state of Washington, according to AHA data.

“It is important that patients receive high-quality care quickly when every second counts. That extraordinary care often begins with rural hospitals and first responders. Providence is grateful for our partner’s commitment to reducing the effects of stroke,” said Dr. Cynthia Murphy, Providence Neuroscience Institute stroke program director.

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States. When treating a stroke, “time is brain,” which means the more immediate the treatment, the less damage to the brain from the stroke.
