Eastern Washington Congresswoman, FCC Commissioner witness Providence telehealth advancements

Spokane, Wash.--Providence’s local telehealth team had a unique opportunity in early July to present to Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr during their visit to Washington’s 5th Congressional District.

Joined by new regional chief executive for Washington and Montana and executive vice president at Providence Health & Service Joel Gilbertson, the telehealth team presented impressive results due in part to the grants provided by the FCC throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Telehealth is key for improving health in our rural communities, but even here in Spokane, telehealth is increasing access and improving health outcomes. The telehealth team shared stories about the growth and opportunities that telehealth holds at Providence.

The congresswoman and commissioner participated in a presentation/discussion and then toured the Holy Family Emergency Department to see how Providence is using telehealth to reach many different patients, including COVID monitoring at home, which started when Providence received the CARES Act funding last year.
