The Defense Department is committed to helping service members and their families to master their move. Every military move is different. Wherever you are, wherever you’re headed, and whoever you’re bringing with you, find support and access benefits to help you get settled into your new home.
Moving across the country—or the world—can be both exciting and overwhelming. At US Family Health Plan Northwest, we know a successful PCS goes beyond shipping your belongings. Here’s how to prepare practically, emotionally, and medically for a smooth transition:
· Prepare your property shipment: Choose government or personally procured mover options, and handle customs paperwork if moving overseas.
· Schedule delivery: Coordinate arrival windows with temporary housing or base lodging.
3. Track Health and Benefits
· Notify TRICARE and USFHPNW of your upcoming move to update your enrollment and provider network.
· Refill any prescriptions before departure—especially essential medications covered by TRICARE Prime.
· Familiarize yourself with nearest clinics or hospitals at your gaining station.
4. Support Mental & Family Well‑Being
· Register with your new Primary Care Manager (PCM) under USFHPNW/TRICARE.
· Attend base or community newcomer events to build social support.
· Continue using Plan My Move tools—especially for follow-up needs like settling utilities or schools.
