When All Seemed Lost, Hope was Found at St. Jude

David March was admitted to St. Jude Medical Center with coronavirus on April 1. The next day, he was put on a ventilator in an induced coma where he would remain for 17 days. With his chances for survival estimated at less than 5% after multiple episodes of severe respiratory failure, David’s family prepared themselves for life without him.

Thankfully, the care team at St. Jude would not let the 51-year-old La Habra resident go without a fight. Over the course of 84 days, supported by a multi-disciplinary team of ICU intensivists, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists and physical therapists, David went from being on life support to regaining his life.

Nearly three months after arriving at the hospital, the Harley-riding, National Hall of Fame bowler finally went home, surrounded by the applause of St. Jude physicians and caregivers.

“I thank everybody at St. Jude,” David says. “They’re awesome! Now, I’m just looking forward to being home with my family.”
