Last month, the transplant program at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center celebrated a significant milestone: the team's 100th transplant.
The team started performing heart transplants in July 2020. And with each transplant, comes a remarkable story of a patient getting a second chance at life.
Recent transplant recipient Anthony Roberts calls his two-month wait in the cardiac intensive care unit the darkest days of his life. He says his heart was only functioning at 5% when the transplant team shared news that a heart match had become available.
Alongside Jill Gelow, M.D., medical director of Providence Heart Transplant program, Anthony shared his story in a recent interview on KATU's "AM Northwest":
