September 3, 2025

Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka has been honored as a high-performing hospital in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report ratings, earning recognition for excellence in pacemaker implantation, kidney failure management and hip fracture treatment.

Among the leaders in cardiovascular care is Dr. Tin Botzler, a cardiologist at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka who was raised in Humboldt County and returned to serve his home community.

“Recognition by U.S. News & World Report for excellence in pacemaker implantation is a profound honor that reflects the precision, innovation and compassion embedded among our cardiovascular care team,” says Dr. Botzler, “This distinction reflects the tireless efforts of our team to provide high-quality care and excellent patient outcomes. It also reinforces our commitment to advancing heart health for all patients served by our health care team.”

A graduate of McKinleyville High School, Dr. Botzler completed medical school at UCLA School of Medicine, his residency at New York Medical College and additional specialized training at the University of Southern California/UCLA, before choosing to return home to Humboldt County to practice medicine.

Botzler concluded, “It’s a privilege and joy to give back to this community of families who provided such a strong foundation to my own story.”

The annual assessment by U.S. News evaluates hospitals on their performance in common procedures, conditions and hospital care, helping patients and providers make informed choices about where to seek treatment for complex health challenges or elective procedures.

In addition to the U.S. News and World Report recognition, Blue Cross Blue Shield awarded Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka with the Blue Distinction designation for both hip/knee replacement and spine surgery. The Blue Distinction Specialty Care designation honors providers as Blue Distinction Centers for their expertise in delivering high-quality, effective and cost-efficient specialty treatments with lower complication rates and fewer readmissions.

These dual recognitions from U.S. News & World Report and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction program are a testament to the exceptional care our teams deliver every day.

“Whether it’s advanced cardiovascular procedures like pacemaker implantation or complex orthopedic surgeries, our clinicians consistently demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence, safety and compassionate care. We are proud to be a trusted destination for high-quality care in our region,” said Dr. James Goldberg, chief medical officer at Providence Humboldt.

As Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka continues to lead in patient care, these honors exemplify the hospital's mission to provide world-class care and foster a healthier community.
