On Thursday, June 26, Queen of the Valley Foundation sponsored an event with approximately 75 community leaders, physicians and donors to celebrate the kick-off to renovations at the hospital’s emergency department and to honor Napa Valley Emergency Medical Group (NVEMG) physicians’ 50th anniversary of providing care to the community.
“The generosity of Queen of the Valley Foundation donors made these improvements possible,” said Rachael Poer, chief philanthropy officer at Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center. “This marks a significant milestone in Napa Valley health care, showcasing improvements to critical emergency services while honoring five decades of dedicated emergency medical care in the community.”
Queen of the Valley Medical Center’s level III trauma center and emergency department will remain open 24/7/365 throughout the renovations to care for the approximately 30,000 community members who visit the unit each year. The changes will create a more comfortable environment for caregivers and patients and will improve accessibility for seniors.
“We have already achieved the bronze Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians. These improvements will take us to a new level of functionality and set us up for further success,” said Nicholas Lopez, M.D., emergency department physician and emergency department medical director. “It’s a great feeling to be proud of the place you work; we are so grateful for our community members who made this possible.”
The renovations, which began on June 23, are expected to be completed in August 2026 and include the following enhancements to ensure the comfort of our caregivers and patients alike:
- Refurbished patient rooms, public spaces and nursing stations.
- Upgrades to lighting, floors, countertops, paint, and furniture.
“Thanks to the support of our community, our hospital recently opened the Barbara Winiarski Stroke and Diagnostics Center, and the Napa Valley Vinters Rapid Care Unit in our Emergency Department,” said Amy Herold, M.D., chief administrative officer and chief medical officer. “We are excited to start this last leg of the project and refresh our emergency department to create a more comfortable and healing environment for all who walk through our doors.”
