For many women with dense breast tissue, getting clear answers from a standard mammogram can be challenging. Now, patients at Providence St. Vincent have access to a more advanced imaging option designed to provide greater clarity and peace of mind
Contrast enhanced mammography, or CEM, uses contrast dye to highlight areas of concern, allowing radiologists to see changes that may be harder to detect with traditional imaging. This added detail can support earlier detection and more personalized care decisions.
First in the region, made possible by generosity
Thanks to a generous donor, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is now able to offer this technological tool, expanding access to this important diagnostic tool close to home.
"Currently we offer abbreviated breast MRI for dense tissue screening, as well as screeningultrasound and now CEM," says Sandra Oh, M.D., a radiologist at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Providence St. Vincent Medical Center began offering contrast enhanced mammography in February, helping patients receive timely, seamless care within a setting they know and trust.
Helping patients understand their options
Last week, Dr. Oh appeared on KATU’s "AM Northwest" to help viewers better understand who may benefit from contrast enhanced mammography and when it may be recommended.
