For 65 years, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center has been a trusted place of healing for families across the San Fernando Valley. What began as a commitment to serve the community has grown into a nationally recognized medical center, consistently delivering strong clinical outcomes and exceptional patient care. Today, Holy Cross ranks among the top one percent of hospitals in the nation and has earned a reputation for clinical excellence that reflects both innovation and compassion.
Behind that success are the caregivers and physicians who show up every day with skill, dedication and heart. One of them is Hany Farid, M.D., whose career at Holy Cross spans more than two decades.
Dr. Farid joined the medical staff in 2000. Early on, he noticed something different.
“Holy Cross has the best staff, nurses, administration and quality of care,” Dr. Farid says. “I initially joined as a staff surgeon and immediately noticed that the relationship between physicians, and between physicians and administration, was very different than what I’d experienced elsewhere.”
That culture of collaboration, he says, is what quickly set Holy Cross apart.
“At Holy Cross, we’re very collaborative in our approach, and we have a robust peer-review system that holds us accountable to deliver the highest quality of care,” says Dr. Farid. “Everyone is focused on the same goal, how to get the patient better, faster.”
Over the years, Dr. Farid has served in a range of clinical and leadership roles, including on-staff general surgeon, chairman of surgery for multiple terms and the hospital’s chief of staff. Originally drawn to medicine by the problem-solving nature of the work and the ability to see the impact of his decisions in real time, Dr. Farid says what ultimately led him to stay in healthcare, and at Holy Cross, is deeply personal.
“There’s nothing more satisfying than getting a hug from a patient or their family and knowing you made a difference,” he says. “Those moments stay with you.”
Reflecting on Holy Cross’ 65-year history, Dr. Farid sees a legacy built not just on growth and advancements, but on people. “It’s very satisfying to look back and know that you’ve played a role, even a small role, in the hospital’s storied history,” he shares. “I hope I’ve helped set the tone for those who come after me, where the guiding principle is always how we can do better for the patient.”
That sense of shared responsibility extends beyond the walls of the hospital and into the community it serves. Dr. Farid is especially passionate about the role philanthropy plays in sustaining high-quality care. He currently serves on the Providence Holy Cross Foundation Board, a reflection of his ongoing commitment to the hospital’s future.
“Philanthropy allows us to survive and thrive, whether that means getting the staff we need or the equipment we need to offer quality care,” Dr. Farid shares. “It plays a huge role in keeping our Mission going.”
That Mission-driven focus continues to shape outcomes today. In 2026, Holy Cross earned national recognition for patient safety and clinical performance, including Magnet® with Distinction — the highest honor for nursing excellence— and Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals and Patient Safety Excellence awards.
Dr. Farid credits these recognitions to the collaboration that defines the hospital. “There’s a camaraderie here that’s hard to find elsewhere,” he says.
As healthcare continues to evolve, Dr. Farid’s hope for the future remains simple: that Holy Cross continues to excel in the areas it serves, while staying true to the values that have guided the hospital for 65 years.
“Holy Cross is one of the best-kept secrets in the valley,” Dr. Farid says. “It’s a jewel that doesn’t always get the name recognition it should. There’s very little we can’t do here.”
