Being a new parent can be overwhelming and dealing with a crying baby can be stressful. It’s important for parents to understand that babies go through a Period of PURPLE Crying, when baby’s crying intensifies and he/she may seem inconsolable
All new parents at Providence in Oregon receive education about the Period of PURPLE Crying. Additionally, Providence is part of a collaborative effort with other health systems to raise awareness for the Period of PURPLE Crying and prevent shaken baby syndrome.
To support this effort, the public is invited to help make purple caps for babies. The donated purple hats will go home with parents at the birth of their baby during the month of November to raise awareness for shaken baby syndrome prevention.

Your purple baby hats can be dropped off at the information desk at the main entrance of Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
