Providence research in the news: Can AI reduce documentation burden & burnout for healthcare providers?

August 28, 2025

In an August 2025 interview with Providence researchers and leaders, the news website Healthcare Intelligence discussed findings from a recently published study on the impact of Ambient Clinical Intelligence (ACI) on providers' documentation workload.

The study, published in Future Healthcare Journal, measured the effects of using a Microsoft AI solution called Nuance DAX Copilot to reduce documentation workload and improve the well-being of healthcare providers. The researchers found that ACI significantly reduced provider documentation burden, frustration and burnout. ACI use reduced daily documentation time, and 2.5 hours per week of ‘pajama time’ or off-hours documentation.

The interview delves into these findings and what they mean for caregivers at Providence and beyond.
