(Missoula, August 20, 2019) Providence St. Patrick Hospital was recently recognized as the #1 hospital in Montana out of the 65 evaluated by U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings.

Hospitals are also rated as “high performing,” “average” or “below average” in nine common procedures and conditions. U.S. News ranked Providence St. Patrick Hospital as “high performing” in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and hip and knee replacement.

The 2019-2020 Best Hospitals rankings provide a multifaceted assessment on nearly every hospital nationwide to help patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to seek care. Spanning 25 adult specialties, procedures and conditions ranging from cancer to cardiology, the 2019-20 rankings evaluated nearly every community hospital in America. This year, only 165 hospitals out of more than 4,500 were nationally ranked in one specialty, while 569 were ranked among the Best Regional Hospitals in a state or metro area based on their performance in delivering complex and common care.

Joyce Dombrouski, Chief Executive, Providence Montana, says that this recognition is indicative of the hospital’s continuous strive for quality. “While all hospitals work to become the best at providing quality care for their patients, St. Pat’s provides data-driven, evidenced-based, high-quality and compassionate, safe and reliable care to all as part of our Mission. I am proud of every caregiver who has made this incredible acknowledgement possible.”

U.S. News evaluated each hospital's performance using a variety of measures. Some data came from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Standard Analytical File database. Other information came from the American Hospital Association and from professional organizations. Each hospital analyzed in the 12 data-driven rankings received an overall score from 0 to 100 based on four elements: outcomes (including survival rate and rate of discharge to home), patient experience, care-related factors such as the intensity of nurse staffing and the breadth of patient services, and expert opinion obtained through physician survey.
