RENTON, Wash. [July 3, 2025] — Providence is pleased to announce that Cherodeep Goswami, chief information and digital officer, has been appointed to the American Board of Surgery’s Board of Directors. His three-year term began July 1.
“I’m honored to serve on the ABS Board and help guide an organization that has played a vital role in elevating surgical care across the country since 1937,” said Goswami, one of only a few distinguished non-physicians to capture a seat on the 14-member Board. “I look forward to upholding the mission of ABS by embracing the possibilities that technology offers today while helping usher in the next wave of surgeons.”
The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization that provides board certification to clinicians who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. The ABS is one of 24 medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Composed of both surgeons and public members, the Board oversees the organization from a business perspective and provides oversight to the ABS Council and specialty boards, both of which consist of ABS-certified surgeons.
As one of the public directors, Goswami brings to the ABS 30 years of experience as a health care digital transformation executive and leader who leverages digital technology to achieve organizational goals.
Prior to his current role at Providence, Goswami served as the system vice president of information services and chief information and digital officer at the University of Wisconsin Health in Madison, Wis. He also served in various roles leading strategic direction for information technology, informatics and other digital activities at BJC Healthcare in Missouri. In 2023, he was named “CIO of the Year” for statewide health care and large enterprise leaders at the CIO ORBIE Awards.
In addition to his new role on the ABS Board of Directors, Mr. Goswami also serves on Microsoft’s Academic Medical Center Advisory Board and other start up advisory boards.
