[Oct. 8, 2024] – Today, Baylor Scott & White Health, Memorial Hermann Health System, Novant Health and Providence announced the formation of Longitude Health, a new organization that aims to revolutionize the way health systems operate, delivering impactful change for patients and communities across the United States.

Longitude Health will draw on the expertise of its member health systems and others to craft bold, innovative solutions that are built by health systems, for patients. The organization will identify, develop, and implement key performance solutions and capabilities to deliver high-quality, affordable health care to patients and improve access and the patient experience.

The founding health system members will collectively invest in initiatives over the next five years across the United States. In the short term, Longitude Health intends to make multiple strategic investments focused on key areas that can create impact over the first 12-24 months of the organization’s formation. In addition, the organization will seek other like-minded and high-performing health system members to join the organization over time.

Longitude Health will identify, develop, and scale capability-based solutions to centralize core operational functions and transform health system performance. Longitude Health is positioned to create value through meaningful initiatives, including:

  • Transform Business Models: Identify, develop, and implement innovative solutions to address health care’s biggest challenges.
  • Improve Health System Performance: Enhance performance across key dimensions, including cost, quality, access, and patient experience.
  • Empower Healthier Futures: Build equity value derived from developing and scaling new capabilities to achieve sustainable change and invest back into patients and communities.

The founding member organizations of Longitude Health include Baylor Scott & White Health, Memorial Hermann Health System, Novant Health and Providence. The organizations are dedicated to advancing health care delivery and improving patient outcomes.

A seasoned leader with a fervent commitment to health care excellence, Mango will guide the collective efforts among member organizations, steering them toward transformative solutions and meaningful outcomes.

Building value through meaningful initiatives

“Longitude Health aims to tackle head-on the most impactful challenges and opportunities in the health care industry,” Mango said. “With representation from the brightest minds and leading executives in health care, our efforts will accelerate the development and adoption of next-generation capabilities and foster positive change. As pioneers in health care transformation, we will prioritize investments benefitting health systems and their patients and communities.”

Tackling the most impactful challenges and opportunities head-on

Longitude Health is focused on addressing health care’s greatest challenges.

“Longitude Health will scale the next generation of capabilities faster and more effectively than if individual health systems attempted to do so themselves,” said Pete McCanna, CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health and founding member. “We aim to set a new standard, demonstrating that new approaches can optimize organizations performance and quality and drive positive systemic change to benefit patients.”

Collaboration will catalyze expansion of high-value care

“Health care requires new approaches. Health systems must expand their core focus areas beyond care delivery and into new business creation and services that will drive high-value care,” said David L. Callender, MD, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System and founding member. “Through this collaborative approach, we aim to take the lead in designing solutions that drive operational transformation and translate into tangible benefits for the patients and communities that we serve.”

Business model innovation is essential for health care sustainability

“As a health care transformation leader, we recognize that the best ideas and our most successful initiatives are often a product of collaboration,” said Carl S. Armato, president and CEO of Novant Health and founding member. “We’re energized by the opportunity to join other industry-leading health systems to discover new solutions and reimagine health care delivery as we know it. I’m confident we’ll create a healthier future — not only for the patients and communities we serve but also for the larger health care industry.”

For the good of all health systems and their patients

“Health systems must transcend traditional care delivery strategies and embrace innovative business models that serve the broader health care community,” said Rod Hochman, MD, president and CEO of Providence and founding member. “To do so, it is imperative that we work with other like-minded partners facing similar challenges to build up new capabilities. By implementing solutions that benefit multiple health systems, we can drive down costs and ensure the sustainability of health care delivery. We will lead the charge in shaping a brighter future for health care delivery.”

Commitment by its members

Central to Longitude Health lies a steadfast commitment to partnership, ingenuity, investment, and bold action.

“Longitude Health represents more than an initiative — it signifies a movement,” said Mango. “We are dedicated to creating positive change for all health systems, patients and communities.”
