More than 50,000 donors to Providence foundations fund critical research, clinical breakthroughs, patient support services and technological advances in urban and rural communities across the Western U.S.
RENTON, Wash., May 8, 2024 – Providence, a not-for-profit health system serving the Western U.S., released its 2023 Philanthropy Gratitude Report, highlighting the health system’s philanthropic initiatives and fundraising efforts across its seven-state footprint. Gifts to Providence’s 40+ foundations totaled $326.7 million in 2023.
“The past four years have been a challenging time for health care, as we recover from the pandemic and contend with the national shortage of health care professionals. Yet, we serve more people in need year over year and continue to advance innovations to help us care for patients in new and better ways. That’s why philanthropy is more important than ever,” said Rod Hochman, M.D., president and CEO of Providence.
Donor investments in 2023 supported:
- Research, clinical trials and innovative new treatments that improve patient outcomes
- Filling care gaps to ensure local communities have access to excellent care, closer to home
- Expansion for critical care, providing greater access to specialized and emergency services
- Addressing disparities in health care for vulnerable populations, including expecting mothers and children
- Areas of greatest need in local communities
The report includes numerous stories of the ways philanthropy is improving health in our communities, including stories of grateful patients whose lives were saved in emergency departments, innovative research projects funded by donors seeking to find better treatments for cancer and heart conditions, donors who are investing to bring the latest technology close to home and groundbreaking projects that help children with mental wellness as well as new moms with the birthing experience.
Philanthropic efforts across the Providence family of organizations help respond to those most in need and complement Providence’s broader community investment and impact work, including its grantmaking, community benefit programs, health equity commitments, sustainability efforts, volunteerism and more.
