There are many kinds of stokes, some of which are heart related and some that are not. For a stroke that is heart related, PFO is a potential cause. Dr. Tod Maddux with the International Heart Institute at Providence St. Patrick Hospital explains. Recently, three large, randomized clinical trials discovered that the future risk of stroke is lowered by closing a PFO through a minimally invasive catheter based procedure.
