Providence St. Patrick Hospital announced that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2023 Excellence Award for Joint Replacement. This achievement reflects Providence’s outstanding clinical outcomes for outpatient knee and hip replacement and distinguishes St. Pat’s in the top 10% nationwide for outpatient joint replacement. It was the only hospital in Montana to receive this award.
“It takes a team of everyone in the hospital to achieve this Excellence Award,” said James McKay, Chief Medical Officer, Providence Montana. “We are always examining our procedures and education to make sure we have the highest quality, safest care for our patients.”
For the Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes at acute care hospitals throughout the country that offer outpatient joint replacement. This analysis included years 2019 through 2021 to identify the top-performing hospitals for outpatient knee and hip replacement. Healthgrades’ analysis revealed significant variation in patient outcomes between hospitals that achieved a 2023 Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award and those that did not during the three-year study period.
- Patients treated at hospitals that received a 2023 Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award have, on average, a 50.7% lower risk of experiencing a complication than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.
- Patients who have an outpatient joint replacement procedure at hospitals that did not receive the award are more than twice as likely to experience one or more complications than patients treated at an award recipient hospital.
Healthgrades’ “Specialty Excellence Awards” recognize the top 10 percent of hospitals across the country in 17 specialty care areas. St. Pat’s was recognized as a:
- Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement in 2023
A five-star rating reflects better-than-expected clinical outcomes. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.
