Mission Viejo, Calif. (May 28, 2020) – Mission Hospital has been awarded an ‘A’ patient safety rating from The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit organization committed to improving health care quality and patient safety through a reduction of avoidable errors. The hospital’s ‘A’ rating reflects the spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals based on the prevention of medical errors, infections and other harm to patients under care.

“We are honored that the Leapfrog Group has recognized both our Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach campuses with ‘A’ ratings,” said Seth R. Teigen, chief executive of Mission Hospital.

“This recognition is directly attributable to our caregivers’ dedication and commitment to safety, quality and patient satisfaction. I thank each and every one of our caregivers for sharing their talents and expertise, and leading us to this distinction.”

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Group uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 hospitals twice a year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

In addition to the Leapfrog grade, Mission Hospital has once again been named in Newsweek’s  2020 list of the World’s Best Hospitals. Mission Hospital was rated as the No. 1 hospital in South Orange County, No. 16 hospital in California and among the top in the United States at No. 103.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Mission Hospital as the 2019-2020 top hospital in south Orange County, the No. 8 facility in the Los Angeles metro area and the No. 13 top hospital in California. Mission Hospital was also ranked among the top 5% of U.S. hospitals for clinical outcomes by Healthgrades in 2020.
