Dr. Christine Johnson now specializing in benign blood disorders
Christine Johnson, M.D., has transitioned to a new classical (nonmalignant) hematology role, seeing patients at both Providence Cancer Institute Franz Clinic and Providence Cancer Center Oncology and Hematology Care Clinic, Westside. In her former role as a general oncologist at the Providence Cancer Institute Newberg Clinic, Dr. Johnson saw patients with a range of cancer types, including blood cancers. The position of caring for benign blood disorders is new to Providence. Currently, Dr. Johnson is the only blood specialist focused on this type of care.
The cornerstone of Dr. Johnson’s clinic is the evaluation and management of a wide range of complex noncancer blood disorders. These include clotting conditions, bleeding disorders, hemoglobinopathies and other anemias, iron deficiency and iron overload, and autoimmune conditions affecting blood cells. She also provides inpatient consultative services for Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Dr. Johnson emphasizes good patient education and helps support primary care clinicians in common hematologic questions. She also supports surgeons to optimize perioperative management and works with obstetricians when there are hematologic complications of pregnancy. Patients can be referred to Dr. Johnson for inpatient and outpatient care, as well as through electronic consultations.
