Introducing Prevention4ME: A new era in breast cancer risk assessment and early detection

Providence Breast Care and Breast Surgery Clinics are excited to announce the launch of Prevention4ME, a groundbreaking program designed to empower women and their breast care team with personalized cancer risk assessments and proactive screening options.

What is Prevention4ME?

Prevention4ME is a population-based screening and early detection initiative for women referred to Providence Breast Care and Breast Surgery Clinics. Every patient scheduled for an appointment at the Breast Care Clinic will be invited to participate, and those visiting the Breast Surgery Clinic may also be eligible based on their physician’s recommendation.

How does it work?

Before their appointment, patients receive a secure, survey-based assessment that evaluates personal and family history. Using the Tyrer Cuzick (TC) model, the program calculates each patient’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and determines eligibility for enhanced screening and/or genetic testing, following the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Genetic/Familial High-Risk Guidelines.

Genetic testing and education

Patients who meet NCCN criteria are offered genetic testing during their appointment. To ensure informed decision-making, educational videos about inherited cancer risk and genetic testing are available prior to testing. Results and recommendations are shared with both the patient and their referring physician. For those with elevated TC scores, additional options such as breast MRI and risk-reducing medications may be considered.

Support and follow-up

If a patient receives a positive genetic test result, the breast care team or lab will reach out to schedule a follow-up discussion. Physicians also receive a copy of the consultation. The breast care team handles authorizations for testing and counseling as needed.

Flexibility for patients

Participation in the Prevention4ME assessment is optional. Patients who decline may still be asked about their personal and family health history during their appointment to calculate a lifetime risk score. They may also be invited to participate in a future appointment.

Partnering for proactive care

Providence Breast Care and Breast Surgery Clinics are committed to making Prevention4ME a routine part of patient screening, taking a critical first step toward proactive early cancer detection.
