Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital unveils new lobby

SPOKANE, Wash. — Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital has unveiled its newly renovated lobby — a vibrant, inviting space designed to comfort and inspire young patients and their families. The $398,000 transformation, the first in more than two decades, was made possible through the generosity of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) donors and partners.

Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Inland Northwest, the redesigned lobby features a dedicated welcome desk, modern lighting, and colorful, kid-friendly furniture. A custom wall mural and river-inspired flooring reflect the region’s mountains, forests, lakes, and rivers, creating a soothing, nature-inspired atmosphere. Bright murals of Spokane landmarks — including the Clocktower, Pavilion, and Spokane Falls — along with playful elevator artwork, add a joyful and calming touch for children facing medical challenges.

“It was important to foster a space where kids can find comfort, joy and a sense of normalcy in the hospital,” said Dr. Mike Barsotti, chief administrative officer. “When children see vibrant colors and playful designs, it helps alleviate anxiety and fear. These environments stimulate imagination and provide emotional support — essential elements of pediatric care.”

In alignment with Providence’s mission, the lobby also features a prominently displayed cross and the hospital’s Mission Statement, offering families reassurance of the secure and nurturing environment that Providence provides.

In 2024, the hospital recorded nearly 3,000 pediatric inpatient admissions and more than 137,000 outpatient visits. The lobby serves as the main entry point for all of them — whether for a hospital stay, clinic appointment, or pediatric surgery. The renovation ensures that every child and family feel supported from the moment they arrive.

Previously, visitors were greeted by a small volunteer table. Today, a clearly marked welcome area helps families navigate their visit with ease.

Funding came from CMN donations collected at local partner locations including Ace Hardware, Costco, Panda Express, Walmart and area credit unions. Whether rounding up at the register or purchasing a balloon, every contribution supports local pediatric care at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and partners, we’ve created a warm, welcoming environment that will make a real difference in the lives of our pediatric patients and their families,” said Colleen M. Fox, chief philanthropy officer at Providence Inland Northwest Foundation.
