Frequently Asked Questions about CHG Treatment (English)
✓ What is CHG and is it safe?
Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) is a special cleaner that helps get rid of germs on your skin. These germs can make you sick if they get into your body. CHG has been used safely in hospitals for a long time.
✓ Why am I getting a CHG Treatment?
Sometimes, germs can get into your body through a tube called a central line. This can cause an infection. We use CHG treatments every day to help keep germs away and keep you healthy.
✓ What if I'm allergic to CHG?
If you are allergic, a daily bath with non-CHG bathing wipes is recommended.
✓ How long does CHG treatment take?
The treatment only takes 5-10 minutes.
✓ Can I wash with CHG myself? Can I rinse off the CHG afterwards?
You can wash yourself, but a caregiver will show you how to use CHG wipes correctly. Do not rinse. Your skin may feel sticky for a few minutes, this will go away once your skin dries. Once it dries, it helps reduce infection for 24 hours.
