Providence Holy Family Hospital Achieves Magnet® Recognition for Nursing Excellence

August 4, 2022 Providence News Team

Providence Holy Family Hospital achieved Magnet recognition, the highest national honor given for nursing excellence, after a years-long, extensive process. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence.

Providence Holy Family Hospital is the only eastern Washington hospital with Magnet status. It is the first time they have been awarded this honor. As of June 2022, fewer than 10 percent of hospitals in the United States have earned this status.

“Magnet recognition is the greatest confirmation of what we already know, our nursing teams are exemplary. Especially through the pandemic, our caregivers showed their excellence again and again,” said Adam Richards, Providence Holy Family Hospital chief nursing officer. “This journey to achieve Magnet status began more than a decade ago. The wait and work were worth it.”

Providence Holy Family Hospital was recognized with four Magnet® Exemplars, or areas of excellence:

  • Management of opiate-dependent newborns to decrease length of stay
  • Nurse satisfaction
  • Reduction of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI)
  • Patient satisfaction

“We are proud to be recognized for our work environment in which nurses feel supported and connected to their service. This is especially important as we deal with a health care staffing crisis across the country,” said Susan Stacey, Providence chief executive. “We are proud of every caregiver who contributes to Holy Family’s excellent patient care and work environment.”

Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is a factor when the public judges health care organizations. U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.
