ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Providence Alaska Medical Center has been recognized as among the best hospitals in the country in the U.S. News & World Report 2019-20 Best Hospitals honor roll and specialty rankings and Healthgrades hospital and health care quality ratings.

U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on data from 4,653 medical centers and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians. Providence Alaska Medical Center was the only hospital in Alaska rated as “high-performing” in more than one category. The hospital was recognized for high-performance in the following medical specialties and conditions:
- Gastro-enterology & GI Surgery
- Nephrology
- Pulmonology
- Urology
- Congestive Heart Failure
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Healthgrades evaluates hospital quality for conditions and procedures based on clinical outcomes. In the Alaska, Providence Alaska Medical Center received awards for treatment of patients in need of cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal and critical care and a total of 15 overall, 12 more than any other hospital in the state. The hospital received a five-star rating in seven different categories and was named:
- Recipient of the 2019 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award;
- Recipient of the Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award two years in a row;
- Recipient of the 2019 General Surgery Excellence Award; and
- Top 10% in the nation for Overall GI Services (second consecutive year), General Surgery, and Overall Pulmonary Services in 2019.
