How to make sense of it all: Prognosis and surrogate decision making in the ICU

White, M.D., MAS Recorded: April 10, 2018 Series: Goldman-Berland Lectureship in Palliative Medicine Physicians and surrogate decision makers in ICUs often have discordant expectations about prognosis, which may compromise the quality of treatment decisions near the end of life. This presentation will summarize empirical work on causes and consequences of discordance about prognosis, and discuss strategies to improve communication about prognosis.
