Dr. Eve Cunningham Appointed as Alternate to the FDA Digital Health Advisory Committee

Dr. Eve Cunningham, Chief of Virtual Care and Digital Health at Providence, has been selected as an alternate in the distinguished pool of non-voting industry representatives for the Food and Drug Administration's Digital Health Advisory Committee (the Committee).  The process to choose the Committee's non-voting industry members was thorough and challenging. In her role, Dr. Cunningham will represent a segment focused on the hospital system integration of digital health technologies, especially those enabled by AI.

 

The Committee is an initiative by the FDA to harness expert advice on the advancing sphere of digital health technologies. The Committee guides the Commissioner of Food and Drugs on a variety of issues pertaining to digital health technologies. These range from innovative approaches for technology development and evaluation, to the crafting of policies that mitigate risks while promoting technological advancements.

 

Dr. Cunningham’s role will involve providing perspectives based on her expertise at Providence in seamlessly integrating AI within health care settings. Dr. Cunningham’s experience at Providence includes leading the implementation of AI-driven solutions improving patient care while focusing on efficiency and safety. As Chief of Virtual Care and Digital Health, she manages a broad portfolio that encompasses enterprise virtual care, hospital-at-home, and remote patient monitoring, affecting over 100 hospitals across 8 states. Additionally, she founded MedPearl, a clinical intelligence engine, and co-chairs Providence's Clinical AI governance team, which strategizes the use of AI in clinical care.

 

Dr. Cunningham's appointment will shape the future of policy and regulatory frameworks within the digital health realm. Her appointment highlights her influential work in digital health at Providence and places Providence’s leadership at the forefront of national discussions concerning the integration and regulation of emerging health care technologies.
