Providence response to CrowdStrike outage

July 19, 2024 Providence News Team

Providence, like other organizations across the world, is impacted by the CrowdStrike outage. Our IT teams have been working to respond to the issue and have restored key functionality in the Epic electronic health record so that nurses, physicians and other caregivers can access patient records and perform clinical documentation. However, other clinical applications and workstations continue to be impacted, and our IT teams are working to restore these services as soon as possible.

The CrowdStrike incident was the result of a content update for Windows. It was not caused by a cyberattack. Currently, we have no reason to believe there are any impacts to data privacy and security.

Please note that Providence is hearing of phishing attempts from bad actors claiming they are from CrowdStrike and Microsoft. We urge you to use caution. Do not click on any unfamiliar links or share personal/sensitive information with individuals on the phone.

Update as of 7/20/24 - 8 a.m. PT:

Providence has been making steady progress bringing systems back online. Our efforts will continue throughout this weekend as we work to restore service levels back to normal as much as possible by Monday morning.

During this time, patient care will be ongoing. People should not delay emergency or urgent care. Our emphasis remains on patient safety and community access.

For our patients, caregivers and anyone else who has been affected by this disruption, we appreciate your patience and want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to resolve this situation as quickly as we can.

We will provide additional updates as new information becomes available.
