Spokane, Wash. — Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital has been recognized as a Best Hospital in the region. U.S. News & World Report named Sacred Heart #1 in Eastern Washington. It also recognized the medical center as high performing in eight adult procedures and conditions.
For the 2018-19 rankings, U.S. News evaluated data from 4.653 medical centers and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in 16 adult specialties including cancer, cardiac, orthopedics and more. Survival rates, patient safety, specialized staff and hospital reputation were among the factors weighed. The best hospitals rankings are part of U.S. News’ patient portal, designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions for common elective procedures.
A total of 27 hospitals/medical centers throughout Providence St. Joseph Health have been honored by U.S. News & World Report for the 2019-2020 timeframe.
The Best Hospitals procedures and conditions ratings – originally called Best Hospitals for Common Care – evaluate almost every hospital in the U.S. that admits patients in any of nine common procedures and conditions: colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, hip replacement, knee replacement, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital is the second largest hospital in Washington State, with 719 licensed beds, including a 160-bed Children's Hospital with more than 90 pediatric sub-specialists, a Level IV NICU, and pediatric emergency department.
