Hospital receives American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus award for proven dedication to best practices and life-saving care
Once again Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GoldPlus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
“Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest guidelines for stroke care,” Chief Executive Terry Wooten said. “We are proud of our doctors, nurses and staff members who work together to ensure our patients receive critical treatments that ultimately lead to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.”
According to the American Heart Association, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and leading cause of disability in the United States. Studies show that early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and shortening recovery times.
The Get With The Guidelines program was developed by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to ensure patient care is align with the latest research- and evidence-based guidelines. Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an in-hospital program that promotes consistent adherence to these guidelines, which can minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death.
Each year, program participants quality for the American Heart Association’s awards by demonstrating how their organization has provided quality care for stroke patients and education to help them manage their health and recovery at home.
“Our stroke program is dedicated to putting proven knowledge and standards into practice every single day,” said Caroline Potter, RN, BSN, clinical program manager for the Queen’s stroke program. “We’re honored to be recognized for our efforts to close gaps in care that separate patients from timely access to appropriate treatments.”
In addition to the Stroke GoldPlus quality achievement award, Providence Queen of the Valley received the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM Elite Plus award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster alteplase.
These awards demonstrate Providence Queen of the Valley’s ongoing efforts to turn treatment guidelines into lifelines, and to improve the quality of care for all in Napa County.
