Providence Saint Joseph Earns Blue Distinction Center+ Designations for Orthopedic Care

June 20, 2025

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center has earned Blue Distinction Center+ designation for knee and hip replacement surgeries and spine surgery, as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.

Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities that show a commitment to delivering high quality patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations.

Facilities designated as Blue Distinction Centers+ for Knee and Hip Replacement demonstrate expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, resulting in fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions.

Blue Distinction Centers+ for spine surgery provide comprehensive spine surgery services; including laminectomy/discectomy, fusion and decompression procedures for cervical and lumbar spine. These centers have lower readmission rates and fewer reoperations.

“We are honored to be recognized as a Blue Distinction Center+ for high quality knee and hip replacements and spine surgery,” said Karl Keeler, chief executive, Providence LA-Valley, South Division, and Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. “The orthopedic care team at Providence Saint Joseph is dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

Blue Distinction Specialty Care is a national designation program, awarded by local Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, recognizing healthcare providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality and affordable health care to meet consumers’ specialty care needs—safely, effectively, and cost-efficiently.
