SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (March 3, 2023) – For the second year in a row, Providence Saint John’s Health Center was named among Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals, a program that measures quality, safety, patient satisfaction and other factors in health care. The Santa Monica-based health center was one of four Providence hospitals in Southern California to receive the recognition for 2023.

In Los Angeles County, Providence Saint John’s is joined by Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, who earned the recognition for the fifth straight year. In Orange County, Providence Mission Hospital, with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach, has been included on the list since its inception in 2019. Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton was included for the third time.

“Being included in a list with so many of the world’s top hospitals is humbling, and I thank all our doctors and caregivers for the work they do to ensure the best possible patient experience,” said Laureen Driscoll, interim chief executive, Providence South Division. “As a long-time nurse, I truly appreciate the Providence commitment to caring for patients with compassion, skill and innovation, and that translates to great outcomes.”

Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Four data sources were used for the evaluation:

  • Hospital recommendations from Medical Experts: an international online survey sent to more than 80,000 doctors, hospital managers & health care professionals

  • Patient Experience: survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization

  • Patient Reported Outcome Measures: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals

  • Hospital Quality Metrics: patient safety, hygiene measures, waiting times and quality of treatment

Providence has 11 hospitals across Southern California. Each work together through Clinical Institutes, sharing expertise in several key specialties to standardize care and improve patient outcomes. This collaboration has led to innovation that ensures each patient receives the latest evidenced-based care and treatment.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2023 recognizes the best medical institutions across 28 countries: USA, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, Canada, India, Australia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Austria, Thailand, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Israel, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan.
