The Providence Medical Group (PMG) opened a vascular surgery and vein clinic in Aberdeen in December 2023 to better meet the needs of the Grays Harbor community.
Typical conditions evaluated and treated by vascular surgeons include narrowing of carotid arteries, varicose veins, arterial aneurysms, dialysis access and peripheral artery disease. The goal is to improve the patient’s functional lifestyle and to prevent devastating complications of vascular disease such as stroke, limb loss or rupture of aneurysms.
“As vascular surgeons, we are trained to identify and treat a wide range of vascular conditions, including aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease, and venous disorders. Our focus is to provide our patients with the best possible outcomes and to help them achieve optimal vascular health," noted Thomas Curry, M.D., lead vascular surgeon.
The Providence Vascular Surgery group is the only vascular surgery team who provides around-the-clock emergency full-spectrum vascular medical and surgical care in the South Puget Sound. Patients are seen in clinics in Olympia and now Aberdeen. Procedures are done primarily at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, which is the only hospital in South Puget Sound with a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room. This room enables the group to perform the most technically demanding vascular procedures using both conventional “open” surgery and the newer “endovascular” minimally invasive techniques.
The vascular group works closely with other clinicians specialized in critical care, anesthesia, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, nephrology, cardiac, orthopedic, podiatric and general surgery to meet any potential needs of the patient during their episode of care. The vascular team’s goal is to provide world-class safe, effective, efficient and compassionate care for any patient with vascular disease.
First established in Olympia in 2016, the vascular team includes four fellowship trained surgeons, a physician associate and an advanced practice nurse. The group currently serves more than a thousand patients from the Gray’s Harbor area. The physicians have between 5 and 25 years of experience in the full spectrum of arterial and venous disease management. Each provider also brings unique attributes to the practice.
Dr. Jason Perry is a native of Quinault and graduated from Lake Quinault High School in 1992. He recently led the vascular surgery service at Madigan Army Medical Center.
Dr. Sara Wasilenko enjoys hiking in the Cascade and Olympic mountains and has expertise in the most modern treatment of aortic arch disorders.
Dr. Louise May is an expert skier and has a strong focus in disorders of the venous system.
Sarah Witecki, ARNP, is a native of Olympia and has extensive experience treating patients from children to senior citizens.
Sunny Huang, PA-C is developing her wilderness search and rescue skills in her off time.
Dr. Thomas Curry leads the PMG surgical groups and is focused on developing the best possible system of care for the surgical patients in the community.
