KODIAK, Alaska — We'd like to inform the community that Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center will conduct a series of active shooter drills April 22-25, 2026.
This training will not impact hospital operations — patients and visitors can continue to come to the hospital like they would any other day.
The purpose of this training is to prepare caregivers to respond effectively to a potential incident and ensure the safety of caregivers, patients, and visitors. These drills are designed to have minimal impact on patient care, and all caregivers have been provided a schedule with the times and locations of each drill.
Areas of the hospital where drills are taking place will be well marked with signs showing “Exercise in Progress” and instructors in vests to prevent people from accidentally entering a drill area.
The drills will not involve any real weapons — a fake firearm using compressed air (no bullets) will be fired once to initiate the start of each exercise. Patients will be notified before training takes place in their inpatient unit.
