In response to an increase in hospital census and staffing challenges, the decision has been made to temporarily postpone elective surgeries at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center through Sept. 1. This is being done to help reduce demands on staff and reserve medical space for those in greatest need. All patients impacted have been notified.
The safety and protection of our patients and caregivers is our highest priority, and every decision to postpone or reschedule a procedure is taken very seriously. Multiple assessment tools are used to determine if a procedure can be reasonably postponed, including expert consensus.
An elective, non-urgent procedure is one that will not cause significant harm to a patient if postponed for a period of time. Postponing these types of procedures is a standard practice when warranted. We are continuing to monitor and assess the needs of our patients and staff on a day-by-day basis. Any additional change to surgical services will be communicated immediately.
We are committed to all our patients and ensuring they get the care they need. Patients who may have been affected by a postponed procedure will be contacted by with more information and to reschedule.
