From our first day at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, your warmth and professionalism shone through. Each member of the staff we encountered was not just skilled and knowledgeable, but also compassionate and kind-hearted. You didn’t just treat (my wife,) you cared for her.
- Letter from the husband of a Providence Holy Cross patient
MISSION HILLS (Jan. 23, 2024) – For the fifth consecutive year, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center was named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals, a recognition of excellence and outstanding patient outcomes.
The award from Healthgrades, a market leader in connecting doctors and patients, places the Mission Hills hospital among the top 1 percent of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance across the most common conditions and procedures.
This award comes just months after Providence Holy Cross earned a 5-star rating from the federal government.
“I’m continuously inspired by our Holy Cross family and their drive to ensure excellence in their work every single day,” said Bernard Klein, M.D., chief executive. “Whether it’s preparing meals for patients or performing complex surgeries, our teams treat our patients with deep compassion as they would their own loved ones, listening to them, comforting them and respecting their needs.”
In the past year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid designated Providence Holy Cross a 5-Star hospital, one of just 483 that received this top designation for quality and safe care. The hospital also was recognized by Healthgrades with its Patient Safety Excellence Award, placing it among the nation’s safest acute care hospitals evaluated by Healthgrades.

The hospital also was recognized by Healthgrades with its Patient Safety Excellence Award, placing it among the nation’s safest acute care hospitals evaluated by Healthgrades. Additionally, Providence Holy Cross was named among the top 10% in the nation this year for cardiology services and rated in 5 stars for coronary interventional procedures and treatment of gastrointestinal-intestinal bleeding.
And Modern Healthcare named Holy Cross among the nation’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare, based in part on employee surveys. Finally, U.S. New & World Report ranked the hospital No. 16 in the Los Angeles Metro Area and No. 28 in California for quality.
Patients routinely are surveyed shortly after they leave the hospital, and their comments reflect excellence and compassion.
“Holy Cross is the best hospital, hands down. On my visits here, I have consistently received the best care compared to other hospitals. I really thank you for your serve and follow-up.”
“I am very happy I chose to come to Holy Cross. It’s by far one of the best hospital experiences I have ever had.”
To determine the top hospitals for 2024, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Unlike other hospital studies, Healthgrades ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed significant variation in hospital performance, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020-2022, if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to America’s 50 Best Hospitals, 176,124 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“Healthgrades commends Providence Holy Cross Medical Center for their leadership and continued dedication to high quality care,” said Brad Bowman, M.D, chief medical officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “As one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, Providence Holy Cross is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide and ensuring superior outcomes for the patients in their community.”
