Proceeds to benefit Breakthrough Healthcare at the Queen

Queen of the Valley Foundation raised more than $1 million at its annual Generous Heart event held on September 21, 2019, at Eleven Eleven Winery. The proceeds will fund the purchase of the newest application of the Stryker Mako Total Knee Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System.

In celebration of the Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the evening paid tribute to its Founding Trustees, 32 community leaders who established the Foundation in 1969. Many of these individuals were involved in raising the funds needed to build the hospital a decade earlier (in 1958). Their mission was to ensure funding would always be available to provide the highest-quality healthcare to everyone who visits, lives and works in Napa County. In attendance at this year’s event were several family members of the Founding Trustees and the last surviving Founder, Jim Maggetti.

To further honor these outstanding individuals, a Founders Courtyard Garden will be created by renowned landscape designers Sabrina and Freeland Tanner. This commemorative garden will be located near the administrative offices and made possible by funds raised from the families of the Founding Trustees and others and the contribution of services by the Tanners.

Generous Heart featured a silent and live auction with a lineup of highly sought-after items, including an exclusive visit to Monterey Car Week as guests of Bentley Motors, a visit to NASA’s Ames Research Center, and commemorative six-bottle cases of Casa Piena Cabernet Sauvignon to be crafted especially by Thomas Rivers Brown for the Queen. The evening’s highest-performing lot was a duck-themed dinner for eight prepared by Chef Hugh Carpenter and Robert Davis, MD, hosted at the home of Lydia and Rob Mondavi.

The Generous Heart event drew on the support of many talented and philanthropic-minded individuals, including co-chairs Beth Fenton, Lydia Mondavi, Lauren Nicholsen, and Erin Simms. Major sponsors and contributors included Barbara and Warren Winiarski, the Thomas H. May Family, Mercedes-Benz of Fairfield, Price Simms Family Dealerships, Isabel and Michael Mondavi, Theoni Lifestyle Event Rentals, Eleven Eleven Winery, Diane B. Wilsey, Ulla and John Brown, Progeny Winery, Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Anesthesia and Analgesia Medical Group, Bank of Marin, Mary Ann and Richard Cuneo, Steve Lebow, and Napa Valley Radiology Group.
