Our new and expanded neonatal intensive care unit opened in September 2023.
Families who choose to give birth at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center have the extra security of knowing that outstanding neonatal intensive care is available for their newborns should such care be needed. And that is more true than ever with the opening of our new state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit.
The new 18-bed unit doubles our capacity and allows us to care for more of our most vulnerable patients. The facility also houses leading-edge equipment, including secure cameras that allow parents to watch over their babies remotely and a new therapeutic, state-of-the-art body-cooling system that lowers the temperature of a baby who’s experienced a traumatic labor experience.
Providence Holy Cross provides our patients with an unparalleled birthing experience and the safety of having trained neonatal providers on hand. “Our NICU is family-oriented; we promote breastfeeding, skin-to-skin time and frequent visitation,” says Keith Kolber, MD, NICU medical director. “Our doctors, nurses and therapists spend time with families to explain our processes and guide them through their baby’s care journey. Our goal is to have a baby go home as soon as it is safe to do so, and the vast majority of babies who need NICU care will happily go home as normal and healthy babies.”
On August 30, we were pleased to host a grand opening celebration to commemorate this new addition to our hospital and thank our donors for their extraordinary support. Thanks to their generosity, we raised more than $7.3 million in support of our new NICU.
“Our caregivers work diligently to provide the highest-quality care to our community, and our new NICU is no exception,” says Michelle Koenig Barritt, chief philanthropy officer for Providence Holy Cross. “Our gratitude goes to our generous donors for their support of our Mission and to everyone who helped make this grand opening event a success.”
We are grateful to our community for their support and humbled to be continuing the legacy of our founding Sisters of Providence.
