DR. SANJIV TEWARI JOINS PROVIDENCE SWEDISH NORTH PUGET SOUND AS CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Tewari leads the medical staff at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Edmonds and Swedish Mill Creek and over 1,500 physicians and advance practice clinicians across the service area.

EVERETT, Wash., Sept. 23, 2025 – Dr. Sanjiv Tewari, M.D., M.S.L., has joined Providence Swedish North Puget Sound as chief medical officer (CMO). In his new role, Dr. Tewari will oversee the medical staffs of Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Edmonds and Swedish Mill Creek, leading over 1,500 physicians and clinicians providing compassionate care across Snohomish County.

A pulmonary intensivist, Dr. Tewari comes to Providence Swedish with over two decades leading regional hospital systems and academic medical centers. He also brings a track record of clinical excellence, financial performance, physician engagement and cultural transformation, making him the ideal physician leader to advance physician and advance practice clinician (APC) engagement, development, strategy, and operational optimization across the care continuum.

Dr. Tewari comes to Providence Swedish from HCA Florida Healthcare in Bradenton, Fla. There he served as CMO for HCA Florida Blake Hospital, a 383-bed teaching hospital and regional referral center with Level II trauma and burn services, in addition to two freestanding emergency rooms. During his tenure, he oversaw 1,000 medical staff members, achieved #1 in the HCA system for length-of-stay reduction and physician engagement, and #1 in the West Florida Division for admission growth. Under his leadership, Blake Hospital became one of best performers nationally in quality, particularly for hospital-acquired infections. Dr. Tewari built several new programs and services, which contributed to a significant increase in growth and profitability. Lastly, Dr. Tewari expanded the graduate medical education program as well as clinical research.

Prior to working at HCA, Dr. Tewari served Cleveland Clinic in progressive leadership roles, most recently as ICU director and director of medical specialties for their Indian River Hospital in St. Vero Beach, Fla. Much of his career was spent in Ohio, where he was chair of the Department of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center and director of the South Region of Ohio for the Respiratory Institute in Cleveland.

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Tewari received his Doctor of Medicine with First Class Standing from the University of Alberta. He completed his internal medicine residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and then a pulmonary care and critical care medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He also holds a Master of Studies in Law from the University of Akron. Dr. Tewari has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards and has published a large volume of academic work.

In his spare time, Dr. Tewari enjoys the arts and culture with his wife, Elena, who is a nurse. He is also an avid tennis player, who likes to hike, bike, and run. His fifth rescue dog, a golden retriever named Jordan, keeps Dr. Tewari company on long daily walks.
