Missoula, MT—Providence St. Patrick Hospital recently achieved multiple American Heart Association (AHA) awards for patient care in stroke, heart attack and resuscitation. The awards recognize the hospital’s commitment to ensure patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
These include:
- AHA/ASA Get with the Guidelines Gold Stroke Award
- AHA Get with the Guidelines Mission: Lifeline Silver STEMI Award
- AHA Get with the Guidelines Mission: Lifeline Silver NSTEMI Award
- AHA Get with the Guidelines Resuscitation: Adult - Gold
- AHA Get with the Guidelines Resuscitation: New born - Silver
For the care of stroke patients, St. Patrick Hospital received the Gold Stroke Award, acknowledging the timeliness of treatment and commitment to preventive care. St. Pat's also received an Honor Roll Award for ensuring that stroke patients receive life-saving medication within 60 minutes of coming to the hospital.
For patients experiencing a heart attack, St. Patrick Hospital partners with emergency services to make sure that patients are diagnosed, transported and treated as quickly as possible to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries. A STEMI heart attack happens as a result of a complete blockage in a coronary artery, with a great risk of death and disability. When an artery is partially blocked, severely reducing blood flow, a NSTEMI heart attack may occur. For its timely treatment and consistent, preventive care, the hospital was awarded a Silver STEMI Award and a Silver NTEMI Award.
The AHA also recognized the care provided to patients who experience a cardiopulmonary arrest while in the hospital. St. Pat’s was awarded the Resuscitation Gold Award for adult patients and the Resuscitation Silver Award for newborns. These awards represent the hospital’s quick response and intervention to these emergency events.
About Mission: Lifeline
The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call, to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. The initiative provides tools, training and other resources to support heart attack care following protocols from the most recent evidence-based treatment guidelines.
This program helps hospitals and emergency medical services develop systems of care that follow proven standards and procedures for STEMI patients. The program works by mobilizing teams across the continuum of care to implement American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology Foundation clinical treatment guidelines.
