As it reaches the one year mark since the first COVID-19 patient was hospitalized in the United States, the U.S. is bracing as a potentially more contagious strain of the coronavirus is possibly spreading. Dr. George Diaz, who treated the first patient at Providence Regional Medical Center, spoke with NewsNation Now on this new strain and the fight to contain it.
“It’s highly concerning that we have this strain in the U.S., but it’s not a surprise,” Diaz said. “It has a number of mutations that make it easier to infect humans.”
