Providence stroke and diabetes programs earn national recognition

Providence received five American Heart Association (AHA) Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for its commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke. Following these best practices saves lives, shortens recovery time, and leads to few hospital readmissions.  

“This national recognition reflects our commitment to provide excellent heart and stroke care,” said Susan Stacey, Providence chief executive of the Inland Northwest. “I’m proud of our teams for putting these best practices to work to ensure more people live longer, healthier lives.” 

For the 14th year in a row, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association honored Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital with the  Get  With  The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. 

Additionally, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital received: 
  • Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll  
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll  
Providence Holy Family also earned awards through the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke program: 
  • Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Award  
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll  

According to AHA, very 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are among the top causes of death in the United States. Studies show people recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
