Providence Health Care has awarded $3 million dollars in grants and donations to more than 45 local organizations and programs in Spokane and Stevens counties that play a critical role in creating healthier communities. The 2021 grant recipients were selected based on their ability to address an identified need or gap in community services.
“Working together with our community partners, we are helping address many topics that affect our community including family violence, mental health, homelessness and health equity,” says Peg Currie, chief operating officer for Providence Health Care. “Together, we can make measurable and lasting improvements in the health of our region.”
Providence conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment every three years in order to direct funding to areas where there is the greatest opportunity. The $3 million for grants and donations is a portion of Providence Health Care’s 2021 Community Benefit Fund.
Providence Health Care’s service to all is steeped in tradition. When the Sisters of Providence arrived in the Pacific Northwest in 1856, they came to answer a call for help from a new pioneer community. What they found were many communities in need of service. Providence continues a tradition of caring that the Sisters of Providence began more than 165 years ago.
Organizations include: A Child’s Hope Spokane, Better Health Together, Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, Children’s Home Society of Washington, Colville Community Health Center, Compassionate Addiction Treatment – Spokane, Excelerate Success, Excelsior, FailSafe for Life, Lutheran Community Services Northwest, National Association for Mental Illness – Spokane Chapter, Northwest Justice Project, Northeast Washington Hunger Coalition, Partners with Families and Children, Priority Spokane, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Second Harvest Inland Northwest, Spokane Prescription Assistance Foundation, Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Coalition, Spokane Treatment and Recovery Services, Transitions, Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant and YWCA of Spokane.
