Providence is expanding its cancer services with the addition of Providence Breast Health and a new fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in breast health. This meets a growing need for oncology resources in the region.
Providence Breast Health opened in May within the Providence Medical Oncology & Hematology Clinic at Providence Holy Family Hospital.
Jessemae Welsh, M.D. joins Providence Breast Health as Providence’s first breast surgeon in Spokane. Dr. Welsh completed her fellowship through the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Welsh’s expertise extends to all aspects of breast care, including screening, diagnosis, cancer treatment, prevention, and more.
“Providence patients will benefit greatly from Dr. Welsh’s passion and experience,” said Dr. Cara Beatty, Providence Medical Group Chief Medical Officer. “Dr. Welsh compliments a large oncology team known for its innovative approach in caring for the whole-person.”
Providence Breast Health offers unique wraparound services tailored to each person’s needs, including a patient coordinator to answer questions, assist with scheduling, and connect patients with additional resources. Close collaboration between other services, such as medical oncology and genetic counseling, ensures every patient has access to the care they need when they need it.
“Breast cancer screenings and treatment are not something you should ever have to go through alone,” said Dr. Welsh. “You can count on our team to deliver coordinated, compassionate care every step of the way, from prevention to recovery.”
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. That is why it is vital for people to be proactive and get regular breast health care.
Dr. Welsh is accepting new patients through physician referral.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Holy Family Hospital are the only Commission on Cancer® accredited cancer centers in the region.
