Providence expands behavioral health program for children

August 15, 2023 Providence News Team

Providence is increasing access to behavioral health treatments for children in the Inland Northwest by expanding its Behavioral and Educational Skills Training (BEST) program. Investing in these services is one of the ways Providence is helping address the urgent mental health crisis facing children and teens.

The expansion will:

  • Double the program’s capacity, allowing Providence to help twice as many kids in need.
  • Add services for 7-year-olds.
  • Relocate BEST from Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital to Providence Holy Family Hospital, bringing both of Providence’s intensive outpatient behavioral health programs to the same campus.

About BEST

BEST is designed for children ages 7-12 who have behavioral and emotional challenges related to past trauma or mental health issues. The program works to meet the needs of the child while improving their relationships with family and friends and school performance.

Children attend the program two to five days per week, working with dedicated professionals, including psychiatrists, registered nurses, mental health counselors, and clinical social workers.

For more information and referrals, call 509-474-2223.

Support for BEST

Program improvements are possible thanks to a state grant funded by the Taxpayers of Washington State and generous support from the Providence Inland Northwest Foundation.
