PROVIDENCE OREGON – Masks are still required in health care settings by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The recent OHA announcement lifting indoor mask requirements applies to areas outside of the health care setting.

  • Providence follows CDC and OHA guidance in requiring masking for all patients, visitors and caregivers.
  • Everyone MUST wear a mask at Providence facilities. The only exceptions are for certain medical conditions and for children under age 2.
  • If you do not have a mask we will provide you with one.

Thank you for understanding and for helping keep our patients and visitors safe.

New CDC mask guidance

Now that Oregon has lifted its rule requiring masks in many indoor public spaces, you can check your community level on the CDC website to help inform your decision on when to wear a mask.

The CDC looks at three factors when determining community levels: new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 people in the past seven days; the percent of hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients; and total new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the last seven days.

Low (green)

  • People can choose to wear a mask based on their personal preference.

Medium (yellow)

  • People are encouraged to speak with their health care provider about precautions they should take if they are immunocompromised or at a high risk of severe disease.
  • People who live with or have social contact with someone at a high risk of severe disease should consider testing before getting together and wearing a mask when gathering indoors with them.

High (red)

  • A well-fitting mask should be worn in indoor public spaces regardless of vaccination status.
  • People who are immunocompromised or at a high risk of severe disease should wear a mask or respirator that offers a greater level of protection.
