What began as joyful news for Lindsay Shadden quickly became a life-threatening pregnancy. At 20 weeks, Lindsay was diagnosed with placenta previa, which progressed into placenta accreta—a rare condition where the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall, putting her at risk for severe hemorrhage and requiring highly specialized care. After experiencing significant bleeding, Lindsay was admitted to Covenant Children's Women's Care Center, where maternal-fetal specialists closely monitored her condition. She was later discharged to bed rest at home—spending Christmas Eve with her family before delivery. At 35 weeks, Lindsay went into labor and was rushed back to the hospital. What followed was a complex, life-saving delivery. A multidisciplinary team—including obstetrics, surgical specialists, anesthesia, critical care, and neonatal experts—mobilized immediately. Lindsay underwent a cesarean hysterectomy with partial bladder resection, requiring advanced surgical expertise and rapid coordination in the face of significant blood loss. Following surgery, Lindsay recovered in the ICU while her husband, Justin, remained with their newborn daughter, Maisie, in the NICU. As she stabilized, Lindsay was moved closer to her baby—allowing healing to begin alongside connection. This seamless continuum of care—from high-risk pregnancy management to advanced surgery, intensive care, and neonatal support—reflects the strength of a system built for moments like this. Today, Lindsay and Justin are raising three healthy daughters: Addie, Holly, and Maisie. Their story is one of resilience—but also a testament to what's possible when expert teams, advanced capabilities, and a shared mission come together. Featured at this year's Weekend of Giving, Lindsay's journey is a powerful reminder of why support matters. Because of it, mothers are here, children thrive, and families are made whole. "I fought as hard as I could, and I trusted the doctors—and they did their job, and I did wake up." Lyndsay- placenta accreta survivor, wife and mother to three healthy daughters. Lindsay.
