14 strengthen the Core Strengthen the Core New Chief Mission Integration Officer Jennifer Kozakowski accepted the role of Chief Mission Integration Officer for our Little Company of Mar y South Bay ministries in Januar y of 2020. She originally joined Providence in Januar y of 2016 as Associate Vice President of Operations for the Institute for Human Caring after serving as the Health System Director for Clinical Innovation and Transformation at Cedars-Sinai. She has previously served in a variety of health care operational leadership roles in hospitals, payers, employers, vendors, and home hospice. Better Together Celebration We celebrated the four-year anniversar y of the coming together of Providence and St. Joseph's Health as one dynamic Catholic health care system on July 20th. Table of the King Each year we celebrate the birthday of Blessed Emilie Gamelin by honoring her service and compassion to those in need. "Emilie came to live with Francois (her brother) after his wife's death, to help him. Every day, when her chores were done, a food basket over her arm, she would set out to visit the poor. Now she wanted to do even more, and Francois encouraged her. She renovated a small room near the kitchen and converted it into a dining room for the exclusive use of the poor who would come knocking, and she referred to it as her den. She put her whole heart into receiving the outcasts of society and treated them as her special friends as she welcomed them to the 'Table of the King.' As a young woman, Emilie Gamelin created a special dining room in her home to serve meals to Montreal's poorest and most humble citizens. Emilie used fine linen and the best tableware and cutlery. There, she served all who came to her door in need of food. Emilie called it "La Table du Roi," or "Table of the King." Venerable Mary Potter also shared in this conviction throughout her life. During a dedication ceremony for a hospital constructed in Rome, she insisted that all who contributed to the project be treated with the same respect as the dignitaries. Fine linen, dishes and silverware were offered to all, as Mary believed that all people were equal in the eyes of God. As people of Providence, we commit ourselves to be compassionate extensions of their kindness. A simple meal of soup and bread is served in honor of our Foundresses who extended themselves to demonstrate the importance of kindness to all. As you enjoy this meal, please reflect on ways in which you imitate our Foundresses in demonstrating respect and dignity for all people, and pay it forward. At both South Bay ministries.
