33 transforMing our future • Caregivers who contribute to support the medical center – our "Mission Makers" - are a vital resource of philanthropic funds. We are grateful for all who choose to include the medical center in their philanthropic priorities! Together, Mission Makers have already given more than $170,000 in 2020! • In the first half of the year we secured two commitments at the million-dollar level: a generous pledge from our good friends at Honda through trustee Steve Morikawa, as well as a joint gift from the Paullin and Colich families, for whom the new San Pedro Emergency Department will be named. • Over $200,000 has been contributed to our Emergency Response and Preparedness Fund, highlighted by a $50,000 challenge grant from Manhattan Beach resident Brad Jones. • Over 238,000 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (including N95 and surgical masks, face shields, and gloves) and thousands of meals have been generously contributed by donors throughout the South Bay. • The first-ever Virtual Gala held in November to honor our "superhero" caregivers netted over $405,000 to support the medical center, including security and safety measures for the Outpatient Behavioral Health Center in San Pedro and new Labor and Deliver y lights for Torrance. • We closed out the year with an $8M estate gift from the Chan family. Mrs. Chan was a grateful patient. • The Foundation developed a wonderful thank-you presentation that was narrated by Sister Terrence which was sent to over 7,000 supporters and continues to garner positive feedback on our Facebook page. Watch the presentation here. • As a commemoration of the 60th anniversar y of the opening of the medical center in Torrance, the Foundation staff developed a Diamond Jubilee Memor y Book that highlights major milestones through photographs and historical narrative. • Finalized an Impact Report to profile benefactors and provide an update on how gift funds have been invested in our medical centers that were raised through the Heart to Heart Cardiovascular Campaign, San Pedro Emergency Department Campaign and the Women's and Children's Campaign, as well as the Advanced Care Center fundraising initiative. The report also includes profiles of some of our major benefactors. • At the onset of the pandemic, the Foundation Board approved a distribution of up to $5 million to support our emergency response effort. This commitment served as a meaningful vote of confidence in the senior leadership team and the plans that were developed in ver y short order for the anticipated surge in COVID-19 patients. As a result, we were able to pivot much more quickly to meet the community 's changing healthcare needs while keeping all our frontline caregivers as safe as possible. • The Women's Wellness Conference was rescheduled for April 9, 2021; the Golf Classic is planned for September 2021 and Foundation staff is currently working on plans for our annual Gala to be held in November 2021. While coronavirus initiated a pause in our busy schedule of special events in 2020, we are working on some creative approaches as we prepare for future events and functions.
